Bathroom hand dryers aren’t just ineffective, they’re GROSS

June 21, 2018

As businesses all over Australia look for quick, creative ways to save money and reduce waste, several are choosing to eliminate disposable paper towels from their bathrooms. They’re expensive, messy, and complicated (sometimes impossible) to recycle.

On one hand, it’s encouraging that corporations are increasingly concerned about their impact on their environment; on the other, it’s unfortunate that so many are opting for electric, hot air hand dryers. You’ve all seen them in public restrooms, and chances are you’ve all used them at least once. But are hand dryers a safe alternative to disposable paper towels? Let’s take a look.

Hand dryers basically just blow fecal particles around your bathroom

They might feel nice, but research shows that hand dryers actually do more harm than good.

A recent study published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology examined hot air hand dryers in both men’s and women’s restrooms, and the results were nauseating. Scientists found that these machines disperse airborne fecal particles onto your hands, throughout the bathroom and even into neighboring rooms. The study goes so far as to call hand dryers “a possible mechanism for spread of infectious bacteria, including spores of potential pathogens.”

Gross. Even the most pristine toilets are breeding grounds for bacteria and other dangerous contaminants, and evidence shows that electric hand dryers only exacerbate the problem.

Towel cabinets are a hygienic, environmentally friendly alternative to hand dryers

100% cotton towels are stronger and more absorbent than paper towels, and they’re specifically designed to meet the everyday demands for hygiene, comfort and cleanliness in the workplace. In bathrooms, they’re stored in towel cabinets, which ensure zero contact between soiled and clean towels.

When it’s time for a new roll, the cabinet is easily opened with a key, and the soiled roll is removed.

Australian Uniform Service’s towel rental service includes free installation and a steady stream of clean cotton towels. We’ll pick up your soiled towels, clean then, and restock your cabinets when needed.

You’ll save money, help the environment, and best of all, you won’t expose your employees to airborne fecal particles.
