What makes great customer service?

At Australian Uniform, we strive to be a company that provides excellent customer service. We’re always on the lookout for tips to excel in that area, and love to share what we find with everyone. That being said, here are some of our favorite tips (so far!) to help you and your business build a reputation for outstanding customer service.

1. Develop your communication skills.

You already know that good listening skills are essential to good communication, and when speaking to clients you want to be polite and clear so you don’t waste your or their time, or risk muddying important details. But another very important thing to keep in mind is what you don’t say. Your body language can drastically change a conversation, no matter what is actually being said. Always try to stay calm when speaking with customers, and no matter the situation, try to be positive about the outcome.

2. Become an expert in your product.

Customers love to see that you know what you’re talking about, and if you’re prepared you can help them find solutions to their problems or concerns that benefit your company and your customers. If you truly know your product, you may also find something that absolutely won’t work for a customer. That’s okay! Customers love honesty, and if you’re able to say that you can see another product or service benefiting them over another, they will appreciate your honesty, and know that you have their best interests – not just your sales – at heart. This leads us to our next point: Knowing your products and organization will also help you confidently find solutions for your customers. Confidence is key for most thing in life, and for customer service, this is no different.

3. Put yourself in the customer’s position.

One of the best ways to keep your customers happy is to imagine doing business from their perspective. This enables you to keep their interests (and yours) in mind, and hopefully any problems will be able to be resolved in a way that’s beneficial to you both. Once you’ve resolved something, follow up with the customer to make sure that they’re satisfied with the solution you offered. Taking the time to follow up shows that you are willing to do anything to keep their business, which will make them more likely to do business with you again.
